ŏportet, ŭit, 2, v. impers. [2. opus], it is necessary, needful, proper, becoming, or reasonable; it behooves; I (thou, he, etc.) must or ought (cf.: opus est, necesse est, debeo; oportet denotes the necessity of reason or duty, necesse est that of compulsion).
